Massive Attack co-founder Robert Del Naja has curated and contributed to the soundtrack of Life Support, a powerful new documentary chronicling the struggles of medics working in Gaza. The 13-track album, released digitally and on vinyl on October 28 via Battlebox, blends original compositions with tracks from a diverse lineup of artists. All profits from vinyl sales will support the Health Workers 4 Palestine solidarity fund, aiding medical workers operating under extreme conditions in the region.
A Soundtrack for Solidarity
The Life Support soundtrack is more than just an accompaniment to the film—it’s an extension of its emotional and political impact. Del Naja, known for his activism and long-standing support of Palestinian causes, collaborated with Palestinian composer Habib Shehada Hanna to create an original score that reflects the documentary’s harrowing yet resilient tone. The album features three new tracks by Del Naja under his 3D alias—Explosives of the Future, Perfect Victims, and House of Healing—alongside a remix of Kneecap’s Palestine (feat. Fawzi).
Other contributors include: - Yasmine Hamdan – Thirteen Kilometres - 47Soul – Ya Kho - The Five Techniques (feat. Paul Weller, David Holmes, Róisín El Cherif) – Resistance in the Dark - Siba and Monkyman – Dounana - Massar Egbari – Ana Mawgoud - Aar Maanta – Sahnuuni
The vinyl edition, available for pre-order, ensures that all proceeds directly benefit the medics and healthcare workers featured in the film.
The Film: A Rare Glimpse into Gaza
Directed by Daniele Rugo and narrated by actress Denise Gough (Andor), Life Support documents two years of genocide in Gaza through the eyes of international medics—some of the few outsiders granted access to the territory after Israeli forces barred journalists. The film’s synopsis describes the daily realities of healthcare workers navigating bombed-out hospitals, dwindling supplies, and an overwhelming influx of casualties, primarily women and children. Premiered at Sheffield DocFest in June and nominated for a British Independent Film Award (BIFA), the documentary is now streaming on platforms like Curzon, Apple TV, Prime Video, and YouTube, with select UK cinema screenings.
Del Naja’s involvement in the project aligns with his decades-long advocacy for Palestinian rights. The Massive Attack frontman has been arrested twice this year for protesting the UK’s ban on Palestine Action, a group classified as a terrorist organization by British authorities. His work on Life Support underscores his commitment to amplifying the voices of those affected by the conflict.
Why This Matters for Fans
For Massive Attack fans, the Life Support soundtrack offers a chance to engage with Del Naja’s activism through music. The project bridges the band’s legacy of politically charged artistry with urgent contemporary issues. The collaboration with artists like Paul Weller and Kneecap—known for their own socially conscious work—adds depth to the album, making it a compelling listen beyond the film’s context.
The vinyl release also provides a tangible way to support Gaza’s medical workers, turning music consumption into a form of direct action. As Del Naja noted in a statement, the soundtrack aims to “enhance a second-hand experience of living the devastating realities” faced by medics and civilians while “elevating the astounding human spirit and resilience” they display.
