Fontaines D.C. have released “Where Is Gone?”, their first-ever collaboration with global superstar Rosalía. The track appears on the Irish post-punk band’s highly anticipated fifth album, Dopamine Chamber, set for release on October 16 via XL Recordings. The song marks a rare guest feature for Fontaines D.C., who have previously kept their albums exclusively to the band’s core lineup. Rosalía, meanwhile, continues to expand her artistic reach following the success of her 2025 album LUX and a recent standout performance on Saturday Night Live.
A Meeting of Musical Cultures
The collaboration between Fontaines D.C. and Rosalía is a fusion of Irish post-punk and flamenco-infused pop, two genres that, at first glance, might seem worlds apart. However, guitarist Carlos O’Connell—who grew up in Madrid with dual Spanish and Irish heritage—sees a deeper connection. In a press statement, O’Connell described Rosalía’s work as a celebration of Spanish musical tradition, something that resonated with the band’s own efforts to honor Irish music. “For someone with roots in both countries, it’s been beautiful to see,” he said. “She’s an artist who’s blown me away at every stage since.”
The track itself is a sweeping, orchestral ballad that blends Fontaines D.C.’s signature poetic lyricism with Rosalía’s emotive vocal style. Produced by James Ford, “Where Is Gone?” features moody acoustic guitars, swelling strings, and a dramatic crescendo that evokes the grandeur of a Bond theme. Grian Chatten and Rosalía’s voices contrast yet complement each other, creating a haunting and cinematic atmosphere. The lyrics—sung in English—explore themes of loss and resignation, with lines like “I remember when / They held me up against the summertime / And the tears would fall, baby, if you try / There’s no harm in saying, ‘Leave it, let it die.’”
The Album: *Dopamine Chamber
Dopamine Chamber is Fontaines D.C.’s fifth studio album and follows their critically acclaimed 2024 release, Romance, which earned a Mercury Prize nomination and two Grammy nods. The new album takes a darker, more urgent tone, reflecting the chaos of modern life. Frontman Grian Chatten described it as a “dopamine chamber” where listeners are subjected to “different mind or mood-altering pieces of music.” The album tackles themes like AI, political violence, climate change, and the relentless cycle of celebrity culture, all filtered through the band’s signature post-punk lens.
Recorded in London, the English countryside, and Palermo, Italy, Dopamine Chamber was shaped by Chatten’s unconventional approach to capturing sound. In Palermo, he built a DIY vocal booth from mattresses and cushions to achieve a raw, intimate quality. “I felt it would be more powerful to leave the hope out and reflect the ugliness honestly,” Chatten said. “This one needed to feel more like a catastrophic warning.”

Why This Collaboration Matters

Both artists have built their careers on reinterpreting traditional sounds for modern audiences, and “Where Is Gone?” is a testament to that shared ethos. For fans of Fontaines D.C., the track offers a fresh, orchestral direction, while Rosalía’s involvement introduces her to a new audience within the post-punk and indie scenes.
The collaboration also arrives at a time when both artists are at the peak of their creative powers.
