Sydney’s Northern Beaches will welcome a landmark new event next year when the Aloha Festival makes its debut on March 6, 2027. The all-ages celebration blends surf, music, and community, headlined by three generations of Australian rock icons: Wolfmother, Yothu Yindi, and Ball Park Music. Set against the backdrop of Dee Why Beach, the festival promises a day of live performances, surf films, and cultural initiatives for up to 15,000 attendees—potentially the largest music event the region has seen in over 20 years.

A Lineup Spanning Generations

The festival’s lineup reflects a mix of rock legacy and contemporary energy. Wolfmother, led by frontman Andrew Stockdale, rose to global fame with their 2005 self-titled debut album, which went five-times platinum in Australia and cracked the Billboard 200. Their 2007 Grammy-winning single Woman remains a hard rock anthem. Alongside them, Yothu Yindi—inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 2012—brings their groundbreaking fusion of Indigenous and rock music, best known for the 1991 hit Treaty, the first song by a predominantly Aboriginal band to chart in Australia.

Rounding out the headliners, Ball Park Music represents the newer wave of Australian indie-pop, with multiple ARIA top-five albums, including their 2020 chart-topper Ball Park Music. Supporting acts include Dune Rats, The Terrys, The Beautiful Girls, Mid Drift, and The Beefs, ensuring a diverse musical experience.

More Than Music: Culture and Community

Beyond the performances, Aloha Festival is designed as a community-driven experience. Between live sets, the main stage will screen curated surf films, including works by John Florence, Jack Johnson, and Stacy Peralta, remastered in 4K. The event also honors Duke Kahanamoku, the Hawaiian waterman who introduced surfing to Australia at nearby Freshwater Beach in 1914.

Organizers have embedded several initiatives into the festival’s framework: - Shark education and ocean safety workshops - First Nations and Hawaiian cultural programs - Environmental sustainability efforts - Mental wellbeing activities - Bush to Beach, a program offering First Nations youth their first festival experience

Festival founder Luke Campbell, a Long Reef local, described the event as a celebration of the Northern Beaches’ unique spirit. “Our community has faced challenges in recent times, and we wanted to create something that brings people together—from 5-year-olds to 85-year-olds—under the spirit of Aloha,” he said.
